What is Karios Core?
The Karios Foundation is clear that Karios BSD is based on FreeBSD. But they're more cagey about Karios Core. I only see two possibilities, both unlikely:

Karios Core is based on FreeBSD. That means that the foundation ported Ceph to FreeBSD. That isn't impossible; there used to be a port, after all. But it would entail some serious work.

Karios Core is based on Linux. That would make integrating Ceph easier. But then it would mean that the Karios Foundation is trying to maintain two products based on completely different operating systems. That doesn't sound sustainable to me. I would think that they workload would be unreasonable.
So which is it?

Great question. To clarify, the Karios Foundation operates completely independently from our commercial entity, Karios. Here is how the two break down:

The Karios Foundation manages our BSD-based hypervisor, which is intended as a community-driven, single-node platform.

Karios (Commercial) develops our flagship enterprise product, Karios Core. Built on Debian Linux, Karios Core is designed for massive scale with features comparable to VMware VVF, VCF, and OpenStack.
As for our ability to maintain both initiatives, we have a large contingent of developers and support staff dedicated to actively advancing both projects.

I believe you, Ian. I'm just surprised that Karios would choose to do things that way rather than look for some economies of scale by sharing an OS between the two products. After all, even if the Foundation and Commercial are legally separate, I would've guessed that some staff would work for both.
BTW, the products do sound pretty cool. I'll definitely follow them.
